Greenwich Millennium Village

The Greenwich Millenium Village is located in the Greenwich area in East London. It is next to the O2 Arena and near the Canary Wharf neighbourhood. The project was established in 1997, after years of urban development in the area. The goal was to reintroduce the original greenery in the site while developing sustainable homes.

The Village is set on the River Thames, and includes a lot of green open space, lakes and areas of natural beauty. The developers of the project understood the importance of inclusivity, greenery, and innovative design in order to create a sustainable living environment. In accordance with these ideals, The Village has a variety of housing types, good community links and a school. These amenities aid in creating a sense of community between the residents.

GREEN SPACES

50 acres of land were dedicated to developing parkland, and restoring the ecological balance that had been removed during the 20th century because of rapid development. This initiative was led by the Greater London Agency and the Environment Agency. All walkable areas are surrounded in greenery, improving daily commutes and walks.

ECOLOGY PARK

4 acres of the site are dedicated to a freshwater wetland ecology park. It holds two lakes, wooden boardwalks, beaches, and special features to attract local wildlife. Details such as mowing patterns have been taken into account in order to enhance biodiversity. The ‘Green Corridor’ provides a connection to different parts of the park and Village.
